Who do you call when you need a copy—that is, words used for marketing products and services? Copywriters. They are the ones who move words to be able to sell better. Becoming a copywriter can get you to two places. In-house, which includes agency and corporate copywriting,  or freelancing. Both have their pros and cons but it is up to you on how you want to do your work. Agency refers to being in a writing agency, you work with the big guys. Corporate means that you are working solely for one firm, usually you write for the products they have, which, unfortunately, you may not care about. And freelancing says that you are not holed up and you are your own boss.

Here are some steps on how to find your own brand:

You could be wondering why you are only thinking of the specific area and audience. But think of it, if you have a specific niche, then you will be able to focus some more in that aspect and thus, you can find more jobs as well as charge at a higher price.

  1. Finding Your Client

Finding your client can be daunting, especially during the first try. But when you do find one or a few, then getting others will be much easier because your current clients can refer you to others. Whether you are a freelancer or an in-house copywriter, you can find many different platforms to look for a client.

  1. Charge it to Experience

For in-house copywriters, you will be able to receive a stable and steady income. But this is where freelancers tend to have problems with. Although there are instances where working for free can be acceptable (i.e. as you build your portfolio or build connections). Freelancers can charge by the hour, by the project, by retainer, or by commission/bonus.

  1. Scale Your Way to the Finish Line

Working your way up does not mean that you will do the best job for the only client, or clients, that has taken you in the long run. It is being able to work yourself away around and get referred to other people and by that, you will be able to raise your charges as well. This means double the income and even get better clients who are willing to pay what you deserve.
